There’s clearly not a huge difference in the product specs shown above. The ILX-F309 comes with quite a bit more features but nothing that is extremely important. It is equiped with a larger EQ, HDMI inputs, HD Radio and other features like that. But are those features really worth the extra $300 you would have to cough up?

The ILX-F259 does have a pretty interesting feature however, that the ILX-F309 does not come equipped with. And that would be the fully customizable user interface. You can go and rearrange it to fit your preference and needs. While this is an interesting feature i feel as if they downgraded the quality of the user interface to make this applicable. It looks and feels a lot more uncomfortable compared to the ILX-F309’s user interface.

Now its time to talk about the physical footprint of each unit. The ILX-F309 has a larger footprint than the ILX-F259, The ILX-F259 is much skinnier and has a sleeker looking profile than its predecessor. I have had some issues with fitment when installing the ILX-F309, it has a pretty thick profile, that paired with the hovering screen, makes it so that it is not a universal fit. I have had to completely throw out the idea of installing the ILX-F309 in certain vehicles because of this issue. where as the ILX-F259 is a little smaller when it comes to the profile. However they both offer a lot of maneuverability when it comes to adjusting the placement once installed. The massive hovering screen can cause quite an issue when it comes to vents inside many cars, no matter how hard you try, you wont be able to get the screen to stop covering the vents.

There’s very few issues with these units, and not much difference between the two. They both have extremely large screens, paired with the ILX-F309’s HDMI capabilities allows for an amazing unique experience inside the car. where as the ILX-F259 doesn’t have that feature, meaning you will not be able to stream video from your phone directly to the unit.

In conclusion they are both great deck and both are worth the price. In newer cars you see a lot of the massive screens, and hovering screens. Now Alpine has brought those designs to the personalization market. I have installed a lot of the ILX-F309’s however the ILX-F259 is so new i have only had the opportunity to install a couple. But from what i have seen from them i am really happy with the way the work and function. I wish that the user interface looked a little better, and more like the ILX-F309’s interface. When it comes to choosing which one is best for you. i recommend you look at the pro’s and con’s of both units. While one has more features the other is significantly more inexpensive, so if money is the deciding factor, the ILX-F259 is by far the better option.
